Let's be honest…college can feel like a lot sometimes.

Whether you're trying to balance classes, work, family responsibilities, or simply figure out what comes next, it's easy to feel like you're navigating everything on your own. That's where the NOVA Online Peer Mentoring Program comes in. Through the program, students are matched with peer mentors who have been in their shoes and are there to provide support, encouragement, and guidance along the way.

Sometimes, having someone in your corner who gets it can make all the difference.

Why Become a Mentee?

A mentee is someone who is looking for support, guidance, and connection from a peer mentor who has been in their shoes. As a mentee, you gain access to someone who understands the student experience and can offer advice, resources, and encouragement when you need it most. Whether you're trying to navigate your first semester or looking for ways to stay motivated and connected, having a mentor can make a big difference.

What are the benefits of having a mentor?

  • Building confidence as a student
  • Learning tips for managing time and staying organized
  • Discovering campus resources and opportunities
  • Feeling more connected to the NOVA Online community
  • Having a trusted peer to ask questions and share experiences

Thinking About Becoming a Mentor?

Being a mentor is just as rewarding.

Mentors have the opportunity to support fellow students, develop leadership skills, and make a meaningful impact on someone else's college journey. Many mentors tell us they gain just as much from the experience as their mentees do.

As a mentor, you can:

  • Strengthen your communication and leadership skills
  • Build meaningful connections with other students
  • Give back to the NOVA Online community
  • Gain valuable experience that looks great on resumes and transfer applications
  • Help another student feel supported and encouraged

We're Better Together

One of the best parts of the NOVA Online Peer Mentoring Program is that it reminds us that we don't have to do college alone. Whether you're looking for support or hoping to provide it, mentoring is a great way to build connections, learn from others, and grow both personally and academically.

If you're interested in becoming a mentee or mentor, we encourage you to apply and take advantage of this opportunity this fall! You never know—the connection you make could be exactly what you need to help make this semester a successful one.

Applications for the NOVA Online Peer Mentoring Program will open in July! Keep an eye on your NOVA email, Instagram, and the Virtual Student Union for more information about how to apply.

We're excited to support you and help you build meaningful connections throughout your NOVA Online journey!
